Sport

House captains are selected to lead their sporting house for their commitment to sport, good sportsmanship, diligence in all areas of school work, their ability to mentor younger students and their leadership qualities. We have different house captains for all four carnivals.

Cross Country Carnival

Our whole school Cross Country Carnival is held within our school grounds ranging from 300metres for prep to 2.8km for grades 6. All classes train prior to this event and the emphasis is on completing your race as best you can in order to receive a well-deserved ice block and a great prize.

Athletics Carnival

The Athletics Carnival is always a highlight for students and staff alike. Grade 4 to 6 students participate in track and field events, including 800m, sprints, high jump, long jump, shot put, discus and relays plus an obstacle course. Our younger students compete in sprints, hurdles, obstacle course and Rob the nest. The teachers verse parents verse house captains relay is a popular spectacle, bringing out the house spirit in all students.

Ball Games/Novelty Carnival

This carnival really emphasises team spirit, good sportsmanship and fun! We start the day with a traditional march past that is followed by each grade level competing in their houses in traditional ball games events such as tunnel ball, leader ball and corner spry. The middle session involved students competing in novelty relays such as egg and spoon, sack races, fill the bucket and four way tug of war.

Swimming Carnival/Swimming Lessons

All students (Prep to Year 6) participate in our Star of the Sea Swimming Carnival, held at the Hervey Bay Aquatic Centre each year in term four. The junior school (prep to grade 3) compete in the wading pool whilst the grade 4 to 6 students compete over 25m or 50m suitable to their ability level.

We are a strong and successful swimming community and our aim is to ensure all students have suitable water safety knowledge and skills appropriate for their developmental level. We conduct swimming lessons for prep to grade 2 at Elder’s swim centre and grades 3 to 6 attend the Hervey Bay Aquatic Centre where we also offer snorkelling and aquathlon training for students 11 years and older.
